So, I was walking in San Remo yesterday when I ran into a woman I had worked with 8 years ago when I'd first arrived in this area.  The usual cheek kissing and how-are-you's ensued.  Then there was a pause.  We didn't really have too much to talk about when we saw each other every day, so now after so long there was even less.  She looked me over, noting my sweater/scarf/wrist warmers combo and said, "Did you make all these?"  You don't really have to be my best friend to know that I knit.  In fact you will know that 5 minutes after meeting me.  My former colleague remembered my passion.

I smiled, relieved mostly for the end of the awkward silence, and said, "yes."

To which, my old colleague said, "si vede", which of course means, "you can tell".

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure that was a compliment.

I think that she was complimenting you on the highly skilled artisanal quality of your unique creations as opposed to the prison factory products from China. She might even be a little jealous. The true master of that is Cindy. When someone flips her off in traffic she smiles and gives them the peace sign and comments that the sad fellow is just telling anyone who will listen how many friends he has. Paolo
