17 years ago I told a guy I do.

And he said he did too.

better late...

So, today I was wandering around town and saw some beautiful tomato plants in someone's back garden.  They were as tall as I am.  Here's what mine look like...

Perhaps you can tell in that photo there that mine aren't quite as tall as I am. But just in case you have some doubt....

I might have put them in the ground a little late.

And, while I was in Wisconsin there was a slight chill in the air that I hadn't been expecting.  Which made me want to knit this...

Sorry about that crappy photo of the photocopy I made from my mom's Rowan Mag.  Can you believe that I couldn't find a photo of this anywhere on the net?  Can it be possible that NO ONE else in the world is knitting this wearable blanket coat?

Anyway, the temp here today got into the high 80s.  Hmmm...I think I'll finish that tonight....so I can pack it away til next winter....or until I see my first tomato, which ever comes first.

just because.....

I have a blog and my sister doesn't, I can.....

post this because I think it is fricking funny....

And because it proves that I play the ukulele and that Laurie can hold a trumpet.

June 6 --

The Platters' music from the 50's and 60's is some of my favorite.  In honor of big Herb's passing, I've declared today the official Platters' Day here in Maberga.  I can do that because I'm the mayor.

Actually, I'm not the mayor but I am now in control of paying the Maberga water bill for the whole group of us.  I think this gives me more power than any mayor I know of, soooo,.....

Happy Platters' Day.

In case you are wondering how one celebrates Platters' Day, these are the traditions:

1. dress like you are ready to dance to any Platters' song ... when it first came out.

2.  only play Platters' music all day long.  Here is a good place on you tube if you don't own any Platters' platters.

3.  write a song in the bathroom...like they did for my favorite song....

If that last one is a bit out of your skill set like it is for me...you can just spend a few hours in the bathroom with 4 friends and talk about music...the Platters', of course.  I suggest that you print out the lyrics of some of their songs so you all can sing them together.  Bring a boombox in with you if you want, or juke box...if you have one.  Q, Ruffino, two imaginary friends and I had a great time, though it was tough keeping Q focused on the music.  I made the mistake of letting her try flushing the toilet...

ANYWAY.....

Happy Platters' Day.

So, I've noticed that there are many things I do in this life that I can place in one of two categories:

1.  It's really fun while I'm doing it and totally sucks after it's over

and

2.  It totally sucks while I'm doing it and feels really awesome after having done it.

If I'm honest, more of my actions in this life fall into the former rather than the latter category...but let's not analyze that right now.

Instead, let's look at some examples of each category:

Fun to Do,  Regrets Sucks After:
--staying up all night to watch one episode of the Wire after another
--listening to any Guns N Roses song
--drinking a pitcher of margaritas at 2 in the afternoon
--knitting non-stop on a full-length grape jelly colored jacket for 4 days
--drawing tattoos all over my body with a permanent marker

Sucks During, Righteous Awesome After
--Yoga
--cooking a well balanced dinner
--waking up before dawn to get a jump on the day
--knitting a swatch to check gauge
--exercise

I could go on and on with categorized examples from my life but...well,  I've run out of examples of category number 2...  except this one....

Planting the orto.

Yeah, it's done and I'm feeling done righteous awesome.

Actually, I only had to do half the orto myself.  I had some major help on the other half...yeah yeah, ok.  They did the other half...

Thanks Em and Graham!!!  Don't you guys just feel soooo totally ....awesome?

It was actually their fault that I wasn't blogging for the past two weeks.  I can happily say it was two weeks spent with them that was actually BOTH totally awesome doing and feels pretty awesome to remember after.

And already looking forward to the next time...

I'm back...

You know how it is when you haven't seen an old friend for a long time...how at first it's tough to find things to talk about because there is just so much to catch up on that you don't know where to begin?  That happen to you?  Yeah, well...here we are.

So, old friends, I'll just do what everyone does when they don't know what to talk about....

It seems to be unseasonable chilly for the beginning of June, don't you think?  And whoa.  Big storm coming our way, isn't it?  Did you see those big dark clouds?  Yeah!  Well, good for the garden, anyway.

It's good to be back.  Talk to you again VERY soon.

happy (late) mother's day

Just a quick Happy Mother's Day to my mom.  All you readers probably think that you have the best mom but you're wrong...unless you're my sister who's reading.

I know this because I just got to spend two weeks with the super-cool chick (mom, have you ever been called that before?  I'm guessing not).  In addition to all the laughing and chatting and playing and shopping we did in this couple of weeks, she also taught me that you can't see a rainbow if the sun is more than 42 degrees above the horizon.  This alone would qualify her, in my mind as super-cool but what really put her over the edge in the mom category?  When I argued with her and told her she was wrong, she didn't lose her patience or even get offended that I didn't trust her 70 years of scientific study (she didn't spend 70 years just on rainbows...there's other stuff she knows too).  She just got out a book and showed me the explanation.

So, happy mother's day, mom.  Look what was waiting for me when I finally got home yesterday.

And you're right...it was in the evening.  I think the sun was about 42 degrees above the horizon.

And, as apology for having doubted you...here's a little song in your honor...

Maybe you all were expecting this one...
